(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two detainees at the Cook County Jail are facing new criminal charges after allegedly being caught with drug-infused paper.

On separate days in April, in separate divisions of the jail, the Sheriff’s office said two detainees were found in possession of drug-soaked paper.

The paper tested positive for synthetic cannabanoids and this week, according to the Sheriff's office. They were charged with Possession of Contraband in a Penal Institution, which is a felony.

Alexander Hamilton, 19 held on armed robbery charges, is alleged to have had strips of drug-soaked paper in his sock.

Kiante Byrd, 22 held on a murder charge, is alleged to have had drug-soaked paper in a notebook.

The Sheriff’s Office said this is a growing trend in correctional institutions across the country, prompting policy changes regarding mail and paper.
