CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - There was another public meeting Wednesday night detailing plans for two new migrant shelters in the West Loop.
The newest shelters are at 939 W. Lake Street and 30 N. Racine Avenue.
While there are those who don't like the idea, the tone of this meeting was different than some.
"We live in an incredibly booming prosperous part of the city, the least we can do is be generous with our space," one woman said.
One West Loop resident spoke about a friend who was facing homelessness.
"She can't get in, and here's people that aren't American, never lived here, and, now, they're coming here and we're going to feed them and give them laundry and all this other stuff," the resident noted.
The City has been opening new shelters about once a week. More than 18,000 migrants have been bussed and flown to Chicago over the past 14 months.
