(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Three weeks ago, people in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood woke up to the sound of flash bang grenades and broken glass as federal agents raided a quiet home on a residential street.
On Friday, prosecutors unsealed an indictment charging two people in the 2021 murder of a teenage National Guardsman on the city's Northwest Side.
Federal prosecutors claim that Gary Roberson and Joseph Matos killed 19-year-old Chrys Carvajal on North Lockwood Avenue near Palmer Street in the Hanson Park neighborhood.
The indictment accuses Roberson and Matos of killing Carvajal to maintain and boost their positions in a street gang.
Court records claim Roberson was arrested on May 16m the same day that federal agents raided a home near the corner of West Farragut Avenue and North Leavitt Street looking for Matos.
Federal prosecutors say Matos was not found there and remains a fugitive.
