Two teens face charges in shooting death of Waukegan coach, counselor

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two teenagers have been arrested and charged with murder in last month's shooting death of a volleyball coach in Waukegan.

On May 6, police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of 10th Street and Lewis Avenue. They discovered two vehicles were hit by gunfire.

Niolis Collazo, 23 was in one of the vehicles and had been shot and died after being transported to Vista East Medical Center.

Collazo was a counselor for the Waukegan School District and a Freshman Volleyball coach.

Both teens, age 16 and 17, were charged with three counts of First-Degree Murder and will be charged as adults, according to Waukegan police.

The suspects were located Thursday in Waukegan at two different locations. At one location, detectives located two handguns. At the other location, detectives located four handguns.

One of the four guns was reported stolen out of Florida.
