Two women die after early morning house fire in Northlake

NORTHLAKE, Ill. (WBBM Newsradio) – Two women died early Monday after a house fire in west suburban Northlake, authorities said.

The fire was reported about 1:25 a.m. at a home in the 70 block of West Drive near Hillside Avenue, according to Northlake police. The Northlake Fire Protection District and several neighboring agencies responded to the scene.

After firefighters extinguished the blaze, crews found two women inside the home, police said.

Susan Palos, 65, who lived at the residence, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Maricarmen Wilkerson, 63, a relative, was taken to Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park and was also pronounced dead.

Neighbors said officers knocked on doors, urging residents to evacuate and move their vehicles as emergency crews worked.

No one else was home at the time of the fire, police said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
