UChicago Medicine team members are hitting the track to study sleep.
The hospital has partnered with the TGR Haas F1 Team on what's being called the "Human Engine," with the purpose tracking the physical, cognitive, and psychological toll of a racing season on team members. It's not just about the drivers. Mechanics, engineers, and support staff are also part of the study, gaining insight on people who cross time zones, work overnight, and perform under intense pressure.
Researchers will use wearable devices and interviews to collect data throughout the season. The goal is to develop strategies that could eventually be applied to motorsports he,althcare, emergency response, and other high-stakes fields.
