(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Members of the Chicago Teachers Union and some aldermen are demanding more from the school system to help migrant students.
Teachers stood outside Chicago Public Schools headquarters in the Loop Wednesday saying migrants don’t have support with, among other things, bilingual programs, special education and counselling.
They’re also demanding that charter schools do their part and enroll migrant students and that all adopt the same language about sanctuary values that other schools follow.
The union members were very critical of Mayor Lightfoot, with vice president Jackson Potter saying she’s hoarding $1 billion.
The CTU is backing Brandon Johnson for mayor and is in contract negotiations with the charters.
