CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Loose dogs in parks became an issue during a Chicago City Council budget hearing for the Department of Animal Care and Control.

Alderman Scott Waguespack first raised the issue with Animal Care and Control Executive Director Mamadou Diakhate.

“What we’ve seen is a serious escalation in in violent acts between dog owners or parents and things like that, to the point where we’ve got people threatening each other with guns…Coming into our office and say they’re go out and shoot somebody if they see their dog out their again, “ Waguespack said.

Ald. Felix Cardona Jr. said it’s not just loose dogs in the parks.

“We also got dogs being walked in the neighborhood not being leashed, and then sometimes they end up attacking another dog…It’s one of those things, I think, it’s more educating than anything else,” Cardona said.

The animal care and control director agreed that dog owners need to be educated.
