CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Chicago area woman who spent time in an Indonesian prison for killing her mother changed her plea to guilty Friday in a Chicago federal courtroom.
27-year old Heather Mack pleaded guilty to charges she conspired to kill her mother in Bali and obstruction of justice.
Mack served seven years of a 10-year sentence in an Indonesian prison for being an accessory to murder. Her then-boyfriend Tommy Schaefer is still in prison there.
Mack and Schaefer were convicted in Indonesia of killing Mack’s mother Sheila von Wiese-Mack in 2014 and stuffing her body in a suitcase, all in order to get their hands on Heather Mack’s $1.5 million trust fund.
Heather Mack’s trial was to begin in August. Instead, her sentencing date has been set for December. Her plea deal calls for her to be sentenced to no more than 28 years in prison.
