Feds willing to pay up to $150K for details on string of South Side USPS robberies

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Federal investigators are looking for the people who they believe are behind the robberies of postal workers on Chicago's South Side.

The United States Postal Inspection Service said it is now offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and convictions of the suspects in three robberies of letter carriers.

Authorities said the first robbery happened around 1:50 p.m. on Dec. 13, 2023, near East 79th Street and South Essex Avenue.

The second happened 10 days later at 8:20 a.m., less than half a mile away, on South Kingston Avenue near 81st Street.

Officials said the third took place just steps away from the first robbery at about 4:05 p.m. on Jan. 8.

According to the National Association of Police Supervisors, assaults against postal workers who are delivering mail increased 231% from 2021 to 2022.
