(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An online campaign has raised more than $16,000 for a Geneva mother and son killed last week in what police are calling domestic violence.

Alejandro Cota, 50, has been charged with first degree murder in the deaths of Christina Chavira and her 13-year-old son Damien.

Geneva Police say Cota lived at the home on Emma’s Way where officers found the pair while responding to a 911 call the night after Christmas.

The medical examiner ruled Damien’s death Friday morning a homicide from multiple sharp force injuries.

A GoFundMe has been set up to pay for funeral costs and a trust for Christina’s daughter.

The organizer says their deaths have impacted many people and left friends and family to try to pick up the pieces.

A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 9.
