WILL COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- It appears voters in the southwest suburbs have said no to a proposal to borrow money to renovate part of Lockport High School, which has been closed for months.
Unofficial results from Will County show voters once again rejecting plans to issue bonds in a Lockport High School District 205 referendum with about 46% of voters voting in favor of the referendum and 54% voting against it.
This time it was $85 million dollars to make repairs and improvements at the Central Campus. The 115-year-old campus has been closed to freshmen since a ceiling collapsed in a classroom in November.
This follows six rejected requests between 2006 and 20-11 to build a new high school.
Voters told the Daily Southtown that they voted against the plan, because the cost of the project was too high. However, one voter said the "school is in desperate need of an update" and voted for it.
