VanderCook College of Music will host its inaugural gala Saturday, April 25, at the Zhou B Art Center, 1029 W. 35th St., Chicago.The event celebrates music education while raising funds for the next generation of music teachers and performers.
Internationally acclaimed tenor and Broadway performer Rodrick Dixon will headline the evening. Dixon's career has taken him from the Royal Opera House Covent Garden to the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the New York Philharmonic.
He was part of the original Broadway cast of "Ragtime" and appeared in "Show Boat" at Chicago's Auditorium Theatre. Additional guest artists include guitarist Larry Brown Jr., trumpeter Ryan Nyther and violinist Zara Zaharieva.
Fred J. Nelson III will serve as music director.Organizers say the gala marks a defining moment in the college's history, bringing together students, alumni and supporters in a celebration of music and education.
