(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Family members say they are relieved after a Cook County judge denied a motion Friday to shorten the prison sentence of a man convicted of a brutal murder in Winnetka over 30 years ago.

David Biro was 16 when he was charged with the murders of Nancy and Richard Langert, found dead in their north suburban townhome in April 1990.

Biro is serving three life sentences.

"He is hardcore, sociopathic serial killer," Jennifer Bishop-Jenkins, sister of Nancy Langert, told WBBM Newsradio.

She said it's been heart-wrenching to be forced to relive her sister's murder in court as Biro has sought a new, lighter sentence. Bishop-Jenkins said she has buried her parents, who were worried that Biro could get leniency.

"Thirty-three years later and it's really hard to have to do this for the rest of my life," she said. "I turned 65 this year. I was 32 and pregnant when she was murdered."

Biro's motion was denied, despite its reference to a 2013 Supreme Court ruling ordering re-sentencing for juveniles who received mandatory life sentences.
