WHEELING (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Hundreds of people gathered in the northwest suburbs on Monday for a prayer vigil recognizing the victims in Israel.
Members of the Jewish community came together in Wheeling to pray for Jews held captive by Hamas, including a mother and daughter from Evanston believed to be held hostage.
Rabbi Sholom Notik organized the event.
“This is not who humanity is. This is not what we have to let dominate our lives. We have to respond with light, with positivity, with good,” Notik said.
Julianna Goldberg attended the vigil.
“We can’t imagine what they’re going through. We can’t imagine, no one can imagine,” said Goldberg.
Faith leaders and community members shared words of positivity and hope.
The hostages include mother and daughter Judith and Natalie Rannan. The 17-year-old just graduated from Deerfield High School.
The vigil was held the same day a funeral was held in southwest suburban Plainfield for a 6-year-old Muslim boy killed in a hate crime.
