Vigil to be held tonight for 5-year-old girl killed by gunfire on Near West Side

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Memorial Day weekend saw nine people killed and thirty others wounded in street violence. The dead include a five-year-old girl.

Five-year-old Reign Ware was sitting in her father’s car on the 200 block of South Campbell. It was 3:30 a.m. on Sunday.

They had reportedly been leaving a family party. A black Jeep SUV pulled up and there was gunfire.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported there were nearly sixty shell casings of four different calibers left behind. Shots may have also been fired from an alley.

A 24-year-old man was also wounded.

Last Memorial Day weekend about fifty people were shot. Twelve died.

This evening, there will be a vigil where the five-year-old was shot.
