(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A cruise line is inviting remote workers to do their jobs on the water.
Virgin Voyages, the adults-only cruise line owned by Sir Richard Branson, is inviting remote workers to spend a summer at sea.
“Since COVID, right around 2019, remote work has quadrupled. So, he is very clever. He is definitely on to something that is pretty forward-thinking,” says travel vlogger Juliet Huddy.
Virgin is offering a monthlong cruise with stops in Southern Europe. Huddy says the company initially targeted Millennials but seems to be attracting Generation X members.
The cost of the voyage is about $10,000 for two people, or $5,000 per person, which Huddy calls a good value, given the cost of cruises.
Virgin Voyages says 2,000 passes were sold in the first 24 hours of the offer, with remote workers making up the majority of the passengers.
The company says its onboard wi-fi will work. Huddy said that remains to be seen and that the service is challenging to provide on the ocean.
