Volunteers Clean Chicago After Marathon

Thanks, Chicago! You Look Great

After the Chicago Marathon, some who ran the race "gave back," while one runner said "sorry about that."

About fifty volunteers said "Thank you" to Chicago for hosting the Marathon by picking up trash downtown.

Leading the effort was Tina Muir, founder of Racing For Sustainability, who told WBBM while standing by a dozen bags of trash near Buckingham Fountain, "we noticed on race day it's about us, we run the race, we are out there in the city, the city gives us so much energy and life, so why not take the day after the race to go clean up the city, to give back to the city to just do something for the community that we are so grateful part of."

Ankit Patel of Chicago ran the Marathon, and cleaned up the day after, saying, "I have a sustainability approach and mindset, like cleaning up the city you pay it forward ten times over and that's really what we're all about."

Others say the Marathon changed their mind about Chicago.

Several hours after the race, on Sunday evening, WBBM bumped into Anna Nawratskaia, from Russia, who said before the race that Chicago has a reputation as a "criminal city" and she was a bit afraid.

Then after the race, Anna told WBBM she had changed her mind, saying she was "impressed" by Chicago saying it's "very nice!"
