
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Voters in the Chicago area are finding more than just candidates and a statewide referendum on a graduated income tax on their ballots this year. There are some local referendums, too.
A number of suburbs are asking if voters would like to allow the sale of recreational use cannabis. They include Glen Ellyn, Mt. Prospect, Elk Grove Village, Wilmette, Batavia, Park Ridge, and Western Springs.
In Calumet City, there are two referendums dealing with the mayor's office. One asks if there should be term limits. The other asks if it should be made illegal for someone who holds a paid, elective state office to run for mayor.
Orland Park voters are being asked if there should be term limits for village trustee, clerk, and mayor. Three 4-year terms would be the limit for each office.
McHenry County voters are being asked if they want an appointed rather than elected coroner.
Algonquin, Richton Park, and Carol Stream voters are being asked if the village clerk's office should cease being an elective office and become an appointed one.
In Northlake, voters are being asked if alcoholic beverages should be allowed to be served and drunk at gas stations.
Voters are being asked to abolish Road Districts in Ela Township, Elk Grove Township, and Bloomingdale Township with the districts' duties taken over by the townships.
There are also property tax referendums in various suburbs for schools, fire departments, and road projects. And there are video gambling questions on ballots in Elk Grove Village and Lombard.
