DEERFIELD, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Walgreens plans to start making COVID vaccines more easily available.
Walgreens announced it wants to reach people who have been underserved or who have problems accessing COVID-19 vaccines, so starting this weekend the company is launching a mobile clinic to bring COVID-19 vaccines to underserved communities in Chicago with no appointments necessary.
The mobile clinic will be held at Healing Temple Church, located at 4941 W. Chicago Ave., on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The following weekend, May 15 and 16, it will be held at Little Village Plaza, located at 3045 W. 26 St. The hours of operation are still being determined.
Additionally, starting Wednesday, some Walgreens locations also will offer walk-in vaccinations, with no appointments necessary. The company did not specify which locations would offer walk-ins.
Walgreens will also begin offering same day vaccine appointments at all its stores. Same-day appointments can be scheduled online starting Wednesday.
“We understand the important role Walgreens has and will continue to play in removing access barriers to the COVID-19 vaccine,” John Standley, president of Walgreens, said in a statement. “Mobile clinics and the other models we use will allow us to bring vaccines to the heart of the most impacted communities, as well as addressing common barriers like transportation and convenience for those who want to get vaccinated.”
Walgreens said it has administered more than 15-million vaccinations nationwide.
