CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An annual walk in Chicago that raises funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s Disease will have a different look this year.
“Alzheimer’s hasn’t stopped and so neither can we.”
Director of the 2020 Chicago Walk to End Alzheimer’s Mary DeMars said the annual event is critical to help fund programs and research, and will do that in a new way this Saturday.
“Instead of gathering 5,000 strong at Soldier Field this year, we’re asking everyone to social distance in their own neighborhoods,” she said. “Sidewalks or trails with your closest family and friends.”
The individual walk will follow an online opening ceremony, and later in the day, include a drive thru of the planted Promise Garden outside Soldier Field.
“We just need to keep spreading the word about it and making sure people are aware,” DeMars added. “Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States.”
She also said what makes the 2020 walk so important is helping those battling the disease and their caregivers, who may feel isolated during the pandemic, that they are not alone.
