(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has issued an arrest warrant for a 28-year-old Zion man in connection to a fatal Waukegan crash in October 2022, in which an 8-month-old baby and his 29-year-old mother were killed and five others were injured.
Authorities said Jarelle Brown is wanted for reckless homicide. The sheriff’s office made the announcement after toxicology testing returned results that allegedly found he was driving under “an intoxicating level” of marijuana when he caused the crash.
Brown was accused of driving more than 75 mph on Green Bay Road when he crashed into another car that was pulling out of a parking lot.
Waukegan resident Cecilia Gutierrez-Ramos was in the front passenger seat and her son Angel Gutierrez was in a car seat in back. They both died of blunt-force injuries.
Brown was treated for serious injuries and was later released pending the outcome of the investigation.
The sheriff’s office said Brown is aware he’s wanted.
He’s been charged with two counts of reckless homicide and two counts of driving under the influence of cannabis.
