(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Sue Sentowski teaches dogs to swim and dock dive from her O’Hare-area business.
“I have clients who come all the time and say, ‘My family thinks I’m crazy that you’re taking this dog to swim. Just throw it in,’” Sentowski said. “It’s actually a fallacy that all dogs are natural-born swimmers.”
Sentowski owns Sue and Crew H2O, located in an industrial park in Wood Dale. She got into the business six years ago after being involved in dog dock diving for years.
“Dock diving is where dogs are placed on a 40-foot dock," she said. “They are set at whatever place you decide to place them on that dock, and they run and they jump into a 40-foot pool, and then they’re measured by how far they can jump.”
Sentowski, her dad Jerry and nephew Adam are the only employees.
“There is such a market for it,” Sentowski said. “People … want to teach their puppy how to swim … they want to make sure the dog is comfortable with the water. People saying, ‘You know, my dog’s had surgery, and the doctor says swimming would be great for it.’”
Sentowski added that some customers are looking to help their four-legged friends lose weight.
Dog owners can even go in the water and play with their pets, she said.
