CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The off-duty Chicago police officer who was shot and paralyzed five weeks ago while trying to break up a fight in the Beverly neighborhood is making progress in his rehab.

A video on Danny Golden’s Facebook page showed him using a walker at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab.

Golden was paralyzed from the waist down when he was shot in the back.
While he’s not actually taking steps in the video, he is on his feet, using a walker, with the help of leg braces and a physical therapist.

The video is accompanied by a quote from Forrest Gump.

“My mama says they were magic shoes. They could take me anywhere.”
