CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Surveillance video showing a Chicago police officer hitting someone at Midway Airport has been made public.
The video was released by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA).
COPA said that, two months ago, an employee at the airport notified a police officer that a man was drinking alcohol and disturbing passengers near the baggage carousel. The officer is seen on surveillance video kicking the man's bag and then whacking him in the head with a police radio.
In the officer's report, he said he told the 50-year-old man — who was described as homeless — to leave the airport. That led to the confrontation, which resulted in the officer hitting the man in the head with his police radio.
The man required several stitches at Holy Cross Hospital.
