CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Despite recommendations from federal and state health officials, a suburban school district has decided to make masks optional for students, staff and visitors.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Illinois Department of Public Health have recommended all teachers, staff, students and visitors in schools wear face masks indoors regardless of their vaccination status.
The superintendent of Community High School District 155 in Crystal Lake told the Daily Herald the decision to make masks optional in his district was based on local COVID-19 conditions and vaccination rates.
Superintendent Steve Olson said the District 155 will have COVID-19 safety protocols in place, including social distancing, screening of students and staff, and improved ventilation at the district's schools.
