Weekend event will honor Bradley officers ambushed two years ago

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A Bradley couple has organized a weekend event to honor one police officer who was killed and another who was badly wounded two years ago.

Sgt. Marlene Rittmanic and Officer Tyler Bailey were shot during a call at the Comfort Inn in December 2021.

Rittmanic was killed, and Bailey was left with severe injuries.

Residents Patrick and Kim Sweetie have planned an event to honor them Saturday night outside the Bradley Police Department on Broadway Street.

“We want to not ever forget them. Tyler has had a life-changing event. Unfortunately, we lost Marlene.”

The couple also encourages people to bring candles or flashlights for the event, which starts at 9 p.m.

Last year’s one-year anniversary was a candlelight vigil outside the motel where the shooting happened.
