(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Mayor Brandon Johnson lives on Chicago's West Side, and members of that community were sharing their thoughts about the city's new leader.
Jerry Warren was eating lunch with friends at MacArthur's Restaurant, 5412 W. Madison St. in the South Austin neighborhood, and said Chicago has a "man of the people" at City Hall.
“He is one of us,” Warren told WBBM Newsradio on Monday, around the time Johnson was sworn in as mayor. “He knows what the neighborhood needs.”
Taurese Stinnett, an employee of the well-known Southern cooking cafeteria, said the West Side is "ripe for revival."
While the residents expressed optimism about the new administration, they also said addressing crime and education should be at the top of the new mayor’s to-do list.
