(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Downtown Naperville is getting a little sweeter.
National retailer Ben & Jerry’s and Chicago-based Firecakes Craft Donuts are opening in downtown Naperville on Friday.
“People are just salivating, literally, that we have two great businesses like this opening up,” said Katie Wood, Executive Director of the Downtown Naperville Alliance.
Ben & Jerry’s will be located on Water Street near Hotel Indigo, and Firecakes Donuts is at 50 South Main St.
Despite the economic hardship created by the coronavirus pandemic, Wood says several new businesses set up shop downtown, including Warby Parker, LoveSac and Top Fashion.
“I don't think any downtown has been insulated from the difficulties with COVID,” Wood said Wednesday. “So, we're really happy to know that so many businesses have opened this year.”
Wood attributes the wave of new business to the downtown area’s vibrancy. The district offers a combination of national brands, independent stores and boutiques, she said.
In addition to the sweet shops, Nike is opening a new concept store called ‘Nike by Naperville’ in October, and Chicago-based JoJo’s Shake Bar will open in downtown at the end of this year.
