WESTMONT, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Westmont Police officer shot and wounded a man who was involved in a burglary at a car dealership.

Police had been alerted to a break-in at 4:30 a.m. at a BMW dealership on Ogden Avenue.

They arrived to find two men sitting in an Acura and two more running out of the business and getting into the car. The two officers were out of their car and, according to the police report, the driver of the Acura nearly hit one of them.

He fired and hit one of the men in the chest and caused a graze wound to another. The officer used his free hand to push himself away from the car, according to the police report.

The Accura was damaged running over a concrete block. Then there was a pursuit that went into Oak Brook where the car crashed into a ditch.

Police said four men tried to run but were all caught and that four guns were recovered and the Acura had been stolen.

The man who was shot by the officer has a non-life-threatening wound and two others had minor injuries.

According to Westmont Police Department use of firearms protocol, the two officers involved have been temporarily assigned to paid administrative leave while there is a review of the incident.
