(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- As millions of spectators gathered all over the country to view Monday's solar eclipse, the question that now comes to mind for many is what to do with the special glasses used to view the phenomenon.
Eclipse glasses don't need to be thrown away. Since the next total solar eclipse that can be seen from a large part of North America won't happen until 2044, there are many options to donate or recycle them in the meantime.
Astronomers Without Borders works with partners to collect recycled glasses. The organization has sent tens of thousands of eclipse glasses to South America, Asia, Africa and South America to provide a safe way for people to view eclipses who may not have the ability to do so.
One of Astronomers Without Borders' national partners is Warby Parker. The eclipses can be dropped off at any store location before April 30. The Chicago area has several locations. You can find your nearest one here.
The full list of partner organizations that work with Astronomers Without Borders in various states and cities can be found here.
Donated eclipse glasses can also be sent to Eclipse Glasses USA. The organization also gives the donated glasses to those in countries, where people may not have access to them, focusing particularly on students.
Glasses can be shipped via USPS First-Class Mail in an envelope to:
Eclipse Glasses USA, LLC
PO BOX 50571
Provo, UT 84605
