(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A sports finance expert says the death of Virginia McCaskey should not impact the Bears' efforts to finance and build a new stadium.

Marc Ganis, president of Sportscorp Ltd. in Chicago told the Noon Business Hour  the death of Bears owner Virginia McCaskey should not impact the team's efforts to move out of Soldier Field and into a new stadium on the lakefront or Arlington Heights.

“She would have supported whatever George and the people that they hired would have wanted to do,” said Ganis.

The McCaskey family will say goodbye to their matriarch and figure out the structure of team ownership going forward.

“There may be some issues related to succession and estate taxes and things of that nature,” he said.

But, Ganis adds that should not change the direction of negotiations with the City and State over financing of a new Bears stadium.

“While she was with us, the team always operated in a very conservative, modest manner. That’s not likely to change,” Ganis said.
