SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Governor J.B. Pritzker isn't ready to lift the indoor mask mandate.
When Governor Pritzker reinstated the indoor mask mandate in late August, the state was averaging 3,600 cases per day. On Monday, the average was 1,800 cases, but it is noted that they are typically lower on Mondays.
Over the last week, the daily average has been about 2,700.
Governor Pritzker is not saying exactly where the state needs to be to lift the mandate.
"We are watching to make sure we are on a good downward trajectory. That's what we were looking for back in May, leading into June. That's what we are looking for now in order for us to possibly make changes," Pritzker said. "What we want most of all is just best practices; right now are people getting vaccinated and people wearing masks indoors."
New hospitalizations are declining, but the number of people in hospitals - about 1,700 as of Oct. 1 - has remained steady, so more progress, but not there yet.
