(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — White House Climate Adviser Gina McCarthy toured some west suburban stops Tuesday, including Argonne and Fermi national laboratories, amid the latest dire warnings about climate change.

The sober assessment of Earth’s future has been delivered by the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
The study warns of increasingly extreme heatwaves, droughts and flooding, and a key temperature limit being broken in just over a decade.

At Fermilab, Rep. Lauren Underwood, D-Naperville, said some of the issues raised in the report will be addressed in the $1 trillion infrastructure package just approved by the U.S. Senate.

McCarthy acknowledged the fate of the package is not certain in the House. She said it’s wise to not only talk about climate change but also about the jobs that will be created in combating it.

Rep. Sean Casten, D-Downers Grove, said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is working to get the measure passed.
