(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - White Sox host the Seattle Mariners in their home opener Tuesday, and Sox fans are being asked to remember the war in Ukraine.
Tuesday’s Opening Day Sox Split 50/50 raffle will start with a $50,000 jackpot and 100% of the final proceeds will be donated to UNICEF and World Central Kitchen to help Ukraine.
“(It’s) really important to help those families that were really suffering in the moment, every day or that had been displaced, just trying to get away from all of the pain and destruction,” said Christine O’Reilly, executive director of White Sox Charities.
“To come up with this concept makes a lot of sense and understanding what’s going on in the world. We’re having adult grown men come play a kid’s game and as great as that is and how important sports is in our culture, there other things going on in the world where people aren’t fighting to win a baseball game, they’re fighting for their lives,” White Sox Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Brooks Boyer said.
Raffle tickets can be purchased inside the ballpark or online at whitesox.com/soxsplit. The jackpot closes at the end of the seventh inning.
