GRAYSLAKE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A suburban Chicago middle school is making new learning arrangements after winter storm damage to the school.
Over 1,000 students in the Grayslake area are learning from home after two schools suffered water damage from no heat and broken pipes.
The greatest damage was to Grayslake Middle School, which will be closed for several weeks as the damage gets repaired.
Liz Vergin is a mother of Grayslake students. She told CBS 2 the school district says in the meantime, it will use the University Center of Lake County, located on the College of Lake County campus, to hold classes.
Over 600 seventh and eighth graders and teaching staff will report to the college next week.
Vergin said there is a silver lining. "We had a family meeting about it, and my son was like, 'Hey, I get to go to college."
It's not clear when students will be back in their middle school building.
