MCHENRY COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Wisconsin woman faces DUI charges in a McHenry County crash this summer that killed an Elmhurst woman.
Alyssa Popp, 31 of Fort Atkinson, Wis. is charged with Aggravated DUI and driving under the influence of drugs. On Aug. 7, Popp was driving northbound on Route 31 in Ringwood when her GMC acadia crossed the centerline and hit an Acura TLX head on, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's office.
Christina Smith, 56 of Elmhurst was in the vehicle and died at the scene. The sheriff's office said Popp turned herself in on Saturday and posted bond.
Smith's obituary described her as a physical therapist, super aunt and athlete who never turned down an opportunity to help out someone in need.
