(WBBM NEWSRADIO) --The woman accused of animal cruelty for neglecting 33 dogs is being asked by the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office to pay for their care while she awaits trial.
The county is asking April Elliott to pay $15 per day, per dog--while they are in the custody of DuPage County Animal Services. That's according to a county spokesperson, who said a date has yet to be set for the forfeiture hearing.
Animal Services removed the dogs from Elliott's home on Mildred Avenue following a neighbor complaint. They found dogs, including nine dead---and other animals in cages stacked in her home in inhumane conditions. The county is actively seeking temporary foster homes for some of the dogs.
Elliott was released on a $50,000 bond and awaits trial on 132 misdemeanor charges.
