CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A woman who was hired by the City after being charged with attempting to kill a police officer has been acquitted.
It was two years ago when Whitley Temple was found lying naked in the street by police officers in West Garfield Park.
When they got out of a marked SUV, police said, she hopped in, and dragged an officer, causing injuries. She then led police on a chase that ended with a crash.
At trial, her attorney said she “was in a psychotic state,” and said it was a "textbook insanity case."
Judge Tyria Walton agreed. She found Temple not guilty of all charges, including attempted murder.
Temple was ordered to undergo mental health treatment.
While she was awaiting trial, she was hired by the City’s Department of Family and Support Services as an accountant. It was unclear if the department was aware she had been accused of attempting to murder a police officer.
She was later fired.
