(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 22-year old west suburban woman has been charged in a horrifying attack on her boyfriend.

Alexis Sykes of Roselle is accused of throwing a pot of boiling water on her sleeping boyfriend, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office said Tuesday. The attack allegedly occurred Jan. 2 in the apartment Sykes shared with her boyfriend.

Prosecutors say Sykes recorded herself committing the act and then posted the video to Snapchat, saying she “kinda feels bad”  after the man sustained second- and third-degree burns from his face to his waist. She allegedly added, “oh well,” with a shrugging emoji.

Sykes allegedly hid the victim’s car keys as he saw some of his skin falling off his arms. He eventually drove himself to the hospital and reportedly underwent skin-graft surgery at Loyola University Medical Center.

Sykes was tracked down in Mississippi and extradited back to DuPage County.

“The charges against Ms. Sykes are very disturbing,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release. “Dousing a sleeping man with boiling water causing serious, painful injury, as alleged in this case, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

Sykes is being held on $500,000 bond.
