(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Friends and family of 47-year-old Jennifer Hamilton remembered her at a Wednesday memorial service one week after she was shot and killed, allegedly by her estranged husband.

Hamilton and her husband were in the process of separating when she was killed last week.

Dozens of people stood on the parkway outside the Cook County Jail where she worked for four years. She was a mental health specialist who served detainees.

Her brother, Mark White, spoke at the service. He talked about how connected she was with Chicago.

"We're all from north central Missouri, and I said, 'Do you think you'll move back to Missouri?'

"And she said, 'No.  Why would I do that?'

"I said, 'Well, all your family's in Missouri.'

"She said, 'But I have so many friends in Chicago.'"

A co-worker told WBBM Newsradio it was important to celebrate Jennifer.
