A 30-year-old Wood Dale man is being held on $2 million bond after allegedly killing his father with a sword.

Authorities say Wood Dale police early Sunday went to the Forest View home of Joshua Castellano and his father, Robert, to respond to a report the elder Castellano had fallen.

Police officers found Robert Castellano in bed, suffering from a 1-inch laceration near his ribs. He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

They found bloodstains and a large sword wrapped in a blanket under the bed, police said. Investigators say Joshua Castellano stabbed his father after the two had a verbal altercation that turned physical.

“This case is a tragic reminder that domestic violence is not confined to the traditional intimate partner scenario that most of us think of when we hear domestic violence,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a joint news release with Wood Dale police. “In fact, according to the FBI, in 2019, nationally there were 344 murders in which a child murdered their parent.”

The younger Castellano was charged with first-degree murder and appeared in bond court Tuesday morning.
