CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Hundreds of people gathered around Woodstock's historic town square Wednesday morning for the annual Groundhog Days Festival.
"Woodstock Willie looked skyward to the east, then behind to the ground and stated in very clear Groundhog-ese, 'I definitely do not see my shadow!'" declared Mayor Mike Turner.
Willie's prediction of early spring was met with cheers from the crowd.
His prognostication, however, contradicts that of Punxsutawney Phil, who saw his shadow suggesting six more weeks of winter.
The annual Woodstock event celebrates the comedy classic that was filmed in the town square 30 years ago in 1992.
