(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – On Tuesday, Foxtrot and Dom's Kitchen and Markets abruptly closed. The 33 Foxtrot and 2 Dom’s stores across Chicago, Texas, and the Washington D.C. area ceased operations.
Many of the former employees of the two grocery stores in Chicago say they were given no heads up that all stores would be permanently closing.
Some have said they were in the middle of shifts when they got the news. Those workers also say they were not given proper severance pay.
In response, a former employee of the Old Town Foxtrot has filed suit against Outfox Hospitality alleging the store's parent company violated state and federal laws, which require workers to be given 60 days notice of mass layoffs.
The lawsuit demands 60 days worth of severance pay and benefits for all who were laid off at locations in Chicago, Texas and Washington, D.C.
The two brands, Foxtrot as a high-end convenience store and Dom’s as a luxurious grocery store, both originated in Chicago and merged less than six months ago.
