WBBM NEWSRADIO -- The family of a west suburban wrestler who took on the Illinois High School Association to allow him to compete says they have won the battle.
When Harrison Konder transferred from Downers Grove North High School to Montini Catholic in Lombard for his senior year, the IHSA said that made him ineligible to wrestle.
Konder was born deaf and has hearing impairments. His family's attorney, Jacie Zolna, said the student transferred to Montini because it offers smaller class sizes, which has helped him do much better in school.
Recently, the family got a federal court injunction that allowed Konder to wrestle at Montini. Zolna said the IHSA is no longer contesting the order.
The association did not comment Wednesday. A spokesman says the IHSA may have something to say later this week.
