(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A street in Wrigleyville may switch from two-way to one-way before the Cubs' opening day next season.

It's Waveland Avenue – a stretch running east from Sheffield, at Wrigley Field, to Halsted.

Forty-Fourth Ward Ald. Bennett Lawson said as a two-way street, some blocks of Waveland are extremely narrow.

"We have issues with sideswipes. You basically have to stop to let a car go by, and if someone's unloading on one hand, forget it,” he tells WBBM Newsradio.

Chicago Police asked for the change more than a year ago. Now, Lawson is asking for comments from his constituents. He says so far, most respondents seem to be in favor of making the leg of Waveland one-way.

If it goes through, he says the one-way designation could take effect before the next Cubs' opening day.

"It is used as an alternative during games,” the alderman says of Waveland. “It still will be, but instead of pushing people toward the ballpark, we want to push them toward an arterial and then home."
