(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Lawyers for a young figure skater say she was sexually assaulted by her coach.
Attorney Allyson West discuses said the complaint filed in Cook County alleging the coach sexually assaulted the minor, who is being referred to as "Julia Doe."
West said her client's parents felt like they were "dropping their child off at the lion's den" referring to the time the victim was being coached.
The complaint alleges on multiple occasions the coach made impermissible, non-consensual physical contact with the minor that was not related nor necessary to coaching. Eventually, a rape allegedly occurred.
Attorney Kelly Olivier said the allegations are from when the girl was very young.
"At the end of the day, the family has done everything they possibly thought of to try to protect their daughter at this point."
She mentioned that the parents have contacted the police and the state attorney's office.
"This lawsuit is essentially the last resort, so this is really their shot to attempt to get justice for their daughter."
The Darien Park District, Darien SPORTSPLEX and U.S. Figure Skating are among those also named in the complaint.
