(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Shedd Aquarium and Lincoln Park Zoo have announced vaccine mandates for employees and volunteers.
The zoo’s staff and volunteers must be vaccinated against COVID-19 by Oct. 15. Ninety-seven percent of staff have already been fully vaccinated, officials said.
“As a science-based institution with 40+ full-time scientists on staff, we vehemently believe in following the science,” Zoo Director Megan Ross, PhD, said in a news release. “It is our responsibility not only to provide a safe space for one another, but the guests we welcome to the zoo each day and the animals in our care.”
Deadline for the Shedd’s vaccine mandate — for employees, volunteers and onsite partners — is Oct. 31.
A large majority of the aquarium’s staff is already fully vaccinated, a news release said.
Both the Shedd and Lincoln Park Zoo said they would make exceptions for medical or religious reasons.
