Apple and Google are teaming up to put a stop to unwanted tracking through Bluetooth devices.
The tracking devices were created to help people find lost keys, keep tabs on luggage or to locate other things that have a tendency to be misplaced or lost.
The two tech giants are collaborating to develop a new technology standard that will allow devices to detect when they are being used for tracking, and alert users if they are being tracked without their consent. This will help protect people's privacy and security, as well as prevent malicious use of Bluetooth devices.
The technology will be built into both Apple and Google products, and will be part of a larger effort to combat location tracking without consent.
Apple and AirTag hope to have a plan in place by the end of this year. The solution would be distributed through software updates to iPhones and Android phones.
