Autoworker is killed in accident at Stellantis Dundee Engine Plant in Monroe County

DUNDEE, Mich. (WWJ) -- One person is dead after a workplace accident at a local Stellantis plant in Monroe County, officials said Monday morning.

A spokesperson for the Stellantis confirmed to WWJ Newsradio 950 that an autoworker was killed at the Dundee Engine Plant, located off US 23 near M-50.

Officials said the victim — identified as a 62-year-old man from Detroit — was injured shortly before 1:30 a.m. on April 7, while working on the assembly line.

He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

While further details about the accident have not yet been released by police, some reports said the worker was crushed by a piece of equipment.

In a statement, Stellantis said an investigation is ongoing into how this tragic incident happened.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends and coworkers of a Dundee Engine Plant employee who was involved in a fatal workplace accident this morning," the statement reads. "The Company is currently working with local authorities to investigate the incident. Out of respect for the family, we are not confirming the identity of the employee at this time. Counseling services will be available for Dundee Engine Plant employees."
